Courses Summary


Awareness Seminar (1 Day)


This module provides an insight into the type and use of resources that support inclusive practice. With an insight into the basics of disability equity training, it provides ‘hands on’ opportunities to try equipment, both on land and on water. Using an open forum approach, it explores issues relating to current concerns or practices and introduces the concepts of regional forums and equipment caches.



Fountation (1 Day)


The Foundation course provides the prerequisite for all of the other modules. This one day practical training module will allow staff to:

  • Understand disability and inclusion related issues Understand the needs of disabled people when accessing facilities or opportunities
  • Take access and equity issues out of the ‘too-hard-to-handle basket’ and provide tools for developing competence and confidence to work in a more inclusive manner
  • Better understand the legal requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act.




Inclusive Health Check (1 Day)


We provide you with a snap-shot of the accessibility of your current marketing, practice and facilities. The assessment will outline the costs and benefits of staff training opportunities and identifying the value of undertaking a more in-depth access audit.



Activity Modules (1 Day each)


These modules will help you to:

  • Develop a better understanding of how to deliver inclusive outdoor activities
  • Build on your existing coaching knowledge, skills and experience
  • Create practical solutions to overcome barriers and perceived problems
  • The courses address the needs of national governing bodies, charities, trusts, organisations and local authorities delivering outdoor education, as well as individual activity centres, coaches and instructors.




General Moving and Handling (Half Day)


This course provides all employees with the principles of safe moving and handling.

It is based on the HSE Better Backs Campaign and illustrates good practice in everyday situations common to the outdoor industry. It explores the legislative requirements and practical application of risk assessments and provides line managers with tools to perform formal assessments which may effect operating procedures. It practically introduces a dynamic risk assessment tool for coaches and instructors to identify solutions and manage risk in ‘out of scope’ situations.
