Dave has had a varied career. After qualifying as a teacher he took up a Short Term Army Commission. He then taught in Forces schools in Bahrain and Malta. In the early 1970’s he returned to the Nottinghamshire and took up a Middle management role at Dayncourt School.

He quickly made his mark at the school was inspirational in developing Outdoor Education at the school. He led numerous expeditions to Norway and Iceland. He also established a thriving Duke of Edinburgh Unit in the school.on a personal level he gained a Diploma in Outdoor Education in the early 1980’s For many years he was on the Young Explorers Trust Executive Committee. His services to youth expeditioning were recognised when he became a Fellow of the Royal  Geographical Society (with IBG).

He still maintains a close association with the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme as Expedition Accreditation Course Leader and an assessor of both Walking and Canoeing Expeditions. He is currently serving a second term as former Chairman of the Nottinghamshire Expedition Assessment Panel

During his army career he had instructed Junior Leaders in canoeing. Semi-retirement in the mid 1990’s allowed him to take up canoeing again and he has subsequently completed the Devizes to Westminster canoe Race on two occasions.
