Arrive at the Adventurers Escape bunkhouse in sunny Weem for an informal
evening meeting the group. We will have a communal meal at approximately
7.30pm.
During the evening we will sort out any equipment issues and park cars
in a suitable location to be left for the weekend.
Accommodation is accessible and will be in one large shared room (bunks)
Saturday 10th June
After breakfast we aim to start cycling some time between 9am and 10am
following the B846 past Castle Menzies, along the River Lyon for a short
stretch before we start to climb towards Schiehallion (The Fairy Hill)
at Keltnyburn. At the top of this climb our trip takes us west past the
northern slopes of Schiehallion through the braes of Foss and down hill
to Kinloch Rannoch.
At this stage those with energy left can continue round Loch Rannoch
itself possibly stopping for tea at its most westerly point whilst others
are able to cycle through Kinloch Rannoch past the Post Taste café to
our accommodation in the Perth and Kinross Outdoor Centre.
We will share another communal meal this evening at approximately 7.30
pm Accommodation is accessible and in shared rooms of 3 bunks
18 miles not including round trip round the loch
Sunday 11th June
Today we start by cycling east to Tummel Bridge with views of Schiehallion
(weather permitting). At Tummel Bridge there are two possible routes to
Pitlochry our destination today. One goes through Foss on the south side
of Loch Tummel, the other follows the north side on the slightly buisier
B8019 past Queens View (apparently the most photographed view in Scotland!!).
Both routes are roughly the same distance however the north side of the
loch offers the chance for a short detour up hill to the small hamlet
of Tenandry then down again to Killiecrankie for those feeling energetic.
Once in Pitlocrhy we are staying in the Atholl Centre which again is
accessible in shared bunk rooms. The centre will be providing our meals.
21 miles not including trip to Tenandry Monday
12th June
Our shortest day yet and maybe a good thing. Taking the back roads from
Pitlochry to Logierait we then cross the Tay on a private bridge and continue
to Grandtully where we cross the Tay above Grandtully rapids through Strathtay,
past J.K. Rowlings house and back to Weem and transport home.
16 miles
August 12th - 19th, 2006 Intermediate Sea Kayaking
Corran, near Fort William, West Coast Scotland In partnership with
the John Muir Awards Activities Programme
The course will provide participants with the opportunity to develop existing
sea kayaking skills further by joining us for six days of inclusive sea
kayaking in the area of Fort William. We will paddle wherever the winds
and weather allow, aiming to explore some of the area's most spectacular
and interesting coastline. Coaches will be able to help you develop your
skills towards achieving British Canoe Union star level awards if you
should wish. Develop existing skills and gain more confidence on the sea,
regardless of your level or ability. You will gain a greater understanding
of the Scottish marine and coastal environment as well as improve and
stretch existing kayaking skills - this course is designed for people
who have some previous experience of kayaking but would like to further
develop their abilities. Coaches and facilitators have a keen interest
in equality and ecology, as well as an understanding of the local culture.
Each days activities will be tailored towards the interests of the group.
We will return to our base each evening, but if participants are equipped
their may be opportunity for an overnight trip. We will be staying in
the comfortable bunkhouse style accommodation of the Munroist's Hostel,
Inchreea Centre, near Corran, approx. 12 miles south of Fort William.
All food will be provided for the duration of the week with participants
expected to help communally cook. Sea kayaks and other equipment can be
provided if necessary. Participants are expected to have had a minimum
of one week prior sea kayak experience, and to be reasonably fit and capable
of spending most of the day on the water. For anyone with a disability,
