Sir Ranulph Fiennes OBE
Patron |
|
One of the twentieth century’s
most formidable explorers. After losing a finger during his
last expedition to the Pole, he is now working closely with
Suresh (our designer) to develop equipment for people with
limited hand-function wishing to participate in watersports.

Karen
Paul (Karen Darke) Chair |
 |
Karen was a keen
runner and mountaineer before becoming paralysed in a rock-climbing
accident, and has since pursued alternative ways to access
the outdoors – canoeing, skiing, and hand-cycling. She
has hand-cycled in various corners of the globe, from Central
Asia over the Himalayas, the length of the Japanese archipelago,
New Zealand, Turkey, Iceland.
Karen founded the Scottish Hand-Cycling
Club and Integrate Paddling, and competes for Britain as a
member of the Trail Orienteering Team. Originally a geologist,
she joined Shell, where she now works in a Learning &
Development role, with a part-time secondment to the Royal
Geographical Society on Inclusive Fieldwork & Expeditions.

Sinead
McCann Vice Chair & Secretary
|
 |
While
managing Canalside Activity Centre, London, Sinead became
involved in accessible expedition and activity work. Her background
is in sports & community development. Living in New Zealand
for 5 years introduced Sinead to sea kayaking and reignited
her passion for being in, on, under and around water. An accomplished
sandwich maker on three continents she has readily adopted
the alter ego of Mama Bear on trips and hopes to meet other
bears and assorted creatures on future adventures! |
Margaret
McKeen Treasurer |
 |
Margaret
is a keen supporter of Interventure, and is a whiz with spreadsheets
and maps! Margaret’s interests are Tai Chi and keeping
fit in the gym, and she prefers to leave the outdoors to those
crazy enough to expose themselves to the Scottish weather. |
Adrian
(Adi) Disney
Technical Advisor |
 |
Before
breaking his back at the end of 1997, Adi was an enthusiastic
climber and canoeist. After spending his student years in
Bangor on the rivers, hills and crags of North Wales and getting
a Marine Biology degree with his spare time, he opted for
work with Outward Bound. After a stint of teaching work, the
call of the Scottish mountains was too strong and Adi went
back to work for Outward Bound in Fort William. Not long afterwards
he broke his back. Since then he has been working as a biology
teacher at Atlantic College in South Wales where he has maintained
a strong enthusiasm for kayaking which has led him from the
surf beaches of Pembroke to the rivers of Oregon. |

Rosi
is a senior Occupational Therapist (OT) based in South Bristol
Mental Health Service. Last year she completed her Masters
specialising in the use of outdoor adventure activities in
personal development for adults with mental health needs.
Rosi's work as an OT has also involved working in units for
special seating systems, wheelchairs and adaptive equipment.
A keen traveller, Rosi was originally inspired
by the playgrounds of New Zealand to develop her outdoor skills
in climbing, mountaineering and sea-kayaking. She has since
worked as open-boat canoe trip leader in Minnosota and taken
up snow boarding, mountain biking and surfing. Rosi is enthusiastic
in giving her time and support to Interventure and is keen
to see further developments in accessible adventure activities.
