heading overview

Equal Adventure is committed to removing barriers faced by disabled people when seeking full and meaningful participation in outdoor activities and active lifestyles. We offer a range of people centered multi-disciplinary, research, design development, training and information initiatives to ensure that you and your organization are able to overcome barriers.

Equal Adventure Developments was established by Suresh Paul in response to the growing demand for inclusive facilities and programmes in sport and healthy lifestyles and takes off from where the Adventure Designs team left off. It is our belief that you and your organisation can benefit from true empowerment with all the advantages that it brings. We can also help ensure you are able to adopt diversity and opportunity in a wholehearted and sustainable way.

Background

Much of the foundation work has a long history which has its routes at Sheffield Hallam University’s Department of Design with the development of the Kite Harness. The next stage of the work was undertaken at Brunel University between 1994 and 2002, under the banner of Adventure Designs a large amount of support was provided by the Tools for Living, Institute for Bioengineering and Design for Life research teams at Brunel University’s departments of Design, Engineering and Bioengineering. During this phase of prolific stage of development large amounts of support was provided from the staff and team members of all the teams, special heartfelt thanks to:

  • Prof Heinz Wolff
  • Prof Ian Sutherland
  • Graham Kay
  • Vivien Young
  • John Burkitt

Our Approach  TOP

For many, gaining meaningful access to sport and adventure opportunities is a greater challenge than the activity itself. Whilst committed to equality, mainstream opportunity providers in the outdoors, expeditions and sport are often forced into standard patterns of operation. This means that people with diverse needs are simply excluded. Gaining meaningful access requires taking measures that challenge technical, logistical and human barriers, building on simple good practice.

Our Mission TOP

To provide a wide range of support to providers - from consultation and research to strategy, implementation, mentoring and technical coaching - to enhance the opportunities to pursue adventure sport and active lifestyles available to people with diverse needs.
Partnership

  • Together we will ensure that you and your organisation are able to celebrate diversity and opportunity in a wholehearted and sustainable way
  • Help create new opportunities for you and your organisation to involve a wider range of people in your activities and programmes
  • Support the development of your facilities to maximise access for all
  • Expand your potential in a practical and sustainable manner; ensuring that the best fit for resources is achieved through people centred development.
